People are in love.....

Its amazing. People love this ugly thing I call the Beast. When one looks up and sees nothing but grill in their mirror, I've seen more than one person either get wide-eyed at the monstrosity staring at them in their rear-view, or they get this look of abject appreciation. The first reaction I get, the second, well, not so much.

The Beast has been all over my neck of the woods since it came home to Houston. It's seen a mechanic, but only for a safety inspection....well, actually, its seen like three mechanics. Two of them are friends who have come to take a gander at it and wow and speak in almost reverent tones. They run their hands along the side of the bed, check out the dual exhaust and take a peek under the hood at its 302 V8 engine. They are, in effect, amazed.

Parts dealers like the salesmen at Auto Zone and O'Reilly's have come out to gawk at the Beast that came from  a farm in Arizona. Hmm, actually, its seen four mechanics. It saw a glass guy today at Planet Ford because it refuses to hold the rear-view on the windshield. Five different windshield compounds and two tubes of super glue and the bugger just won't stick. Finally, the guys at the Ford dealer got it to stay. The window will have to break in order for that thing to fall off again. While I was there, of course all of the service guys heads turned and watched it drive by, I can't imagine what happened in the service bay while the mirror was being attached.

Frankly, I don't get it. It's ugly. It's green....faded mint green. It has cosmetic issues. There are scratches everywhere and holes in places that there shouldn't be from the guy drilling into the topside of the bed where one would put a camper, to mount, I'm assuming, something that he would need to have on hand while he was out in the field. The seat had to be covered because the vinyl is torn to shreds....looks like my cats had a scratching-fest on it but the foam is in excellent shape, makes for a comfy ride. The dash has cracks from here to breakfast and there is dirt everywhere. There's dirt behind the instrument panel; there's dirt on the floors and behind the seat, there's even dirt in the door, where the window goes up and down. The steering wheel is cracked and where the emblem and horn assembly was is nothing but a huge bolt, wires (which are now attached to a horn button) and it is now covered with one of those lace on wheel covers until I can replace the wheel itself. The thing has the market cornered on ugly.....and its good with that.  **shakes head** I just don't get it.
