God is still on His Throne

I was talking to a neighbor tonight who is very frustrated over the last two days. I have to tell you, I've voted every year of my adult life, and even with Carter, and the hanging chads with Bush, I've never seen anything to rival this. But, this is what I know.

GOD IS STILL ON HIS THRONE.

I will admit, I am beyond frustrated. The MSM isn't doing any of us a huge amount of favors, especially when they break away from the President speaking to accuse him of telling lies...mid-sentence. You know, maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but that was a majorly juvenile thing to do, in my opinion.

I don't know who will emerge the victor, whoever it is is going to have a pretty tough go of it probably. But, again, this I know...God is still on His Throne. He sets 'em up, and He takes 'em down. The Bible is clear on that.

Anyway, getting back to our neighbor. I told him the story of King Saul, how the Israelites whined and moaned and groaned about having a King. "Why do the other countries get a king? We want a king! Boo, hoo! Give us a king!" So God said, okie dokie, you will have what you want, and there was Saul. He had his good moments, and a lot of really bad moments, but he was what the Israelites wanted, so God gave them exactly what they wanted. Praise God He brought in David, but still...

So, getting to our tug-of-war here in the US. For a very long time, maybe a little over 60 years, the United States has dismissed God from a lot of things. The schools. Courtrooms. Federal property, even public property. He has been denied, blasphemed, and spat at, and yet, for the most part, the US has enjoyed His blessings. Reminds me a bit of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, when Abraham asked God to stay His hand and not destroy the cities if there were but ten righteous people within their gates. God did stay His hand, until Lot and his family were gone from Sodom, then came the fire and brimstone. You see what I'm saying? We, the "righteous" have been here, we've allowed things to happen that we shouldn't have, in a very real comparison, we were like Lot who lived amongst the Sodomites, saw the debauchery and lawlessness, and only shook his head. He was a prominent figure in Sodom, and yet he said and did nothing. He didn't tell the people to repent, he didn't work to try to fix things, he just shut himself and his family up in their house, and at one point was willing to sacrifice his own daughter to the men pounding on his front door, who wanted him to fork over one of the "strangers" who were staying with him so they could have their way with him.

We, as Americans, sacrificed  the country, little by little, allowed ourselves to be desensitized to what is going on, and what have we done to prevent it? To be honest, aside from a handful here and there, there's been a lot of heads in the sand, a lot of conformity, and a lot of turning of heads, hiding our eyes so that we don't have to deal with it.

Sorry, a bit of a bunny trail there.

Anyway, whoever wins, I know this...God has absolute control over this, He always has, and He always will. We may not be able to figure it out, but we don't have to. The Bible says that we are to honor the "King" and those in authority over us, even if we don't like them. You're not inviting them to your next family reunion, you're voting to put someone in that chair who you believe will do his, or her, utmost best to see that this is still the greatest Country in the world. If, for whatever reason that vision is knocked off track, we still have options, but riots, violence, and looting, well, that's not part of it.

Listen folks, I'm not liking what I'm seeing right now, either...it's giving me one of the worst headaches I've had in a very long time, but, we need to get on our knees...all of us...and beg God's forgiveness, and ask Him to heal this land, to heal the divisions that are threatening to tear this Country apart. Then, and only then will we be able read the remainder of that verse with the confidence that we should always have in our Father.
"Then I will hear from heaven, and heal their land."

Hang in there, folks. It may be a rough ride ahead for some of us, but bring it to the Throne, and hand it over to God. And leave it there. When God puts on your heart to help heal this land, don't walk away, say, "here am I, Lord, send me."
