I want to hold your hand




I Want to Hold your Hand, was a song written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles, recorded by The Beatles in 1963 at EMI Studios in London for the Parlophone label (1). The song speaks of a young man asking a young woman to let him hold her hand. Sorry, that's all I'm giving on this, but the link for the Wiki article is at the bottom. 😁

The reason I started this way is this. A few weeks back, our Pastor talked about holding God's hand, and it has been on my mind off and on since, but, it had a bit of a twist to it. God wants to hold your hand. Okay, you ask, what exactly are you trying to get at? Glad you asked.

When you hold someone's hand, you have control in a way. Think about a child. Do they hold your hand, or do you hold theirs when you are walking? You hold theirs. What's the difference? When they hold your hand, they can let go and take off to their next adventure. When you hold their hand, you have control of the situation. You protect them from any dangers that might be nearby. So it is with God. When you seek to hold His hand, you also can let go, maybe wander off somewhere that you didn't need to be. When you hold His hand, you can let go, and even perhaps walk with Him, but then you also will also fall behind because you let go. When God holds your hand, the God of all Creation has you firmly in His hand. He protects you from the situations in life you would wander off to that may not be in your best interest, and keeps you from falling behind. You are always with God, because He has your hand, as a father holds his child's hand. 

Psalm 73:23 says: 

Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand.

What a comfort in a world such as this! The God of all Creation, the Alpha and Omega, the One who knows your beginning and your end is so in love with you that He wants to hold your hand! He wants you to be with Him forever! I don't know about you, but to me that's an awesome thing to know!

Does God have your hand, or do you have His? Think about it, and if it is you doing the holding, ask God to make that switch and hold yours.

Until we walk those streets of gold together, rest in peace, dear Debi.

I sat here and looked at my blank screen for quite a while. I want to say so much, but I don't know what to say or where to start. My first best friend, my Sister-Cousin Debi, has gone to Glory. Its not as if we didn't expect her passing, because we did. We knew this was coming, even with all of the prayers for complete healing, we still knew. And, I daresay, we mentioned to God for His will to be done, knowing that He was finishing his preparation for her to go Home, but still we held out hope. Debi was released to home hospice I think about three weeks ago, with the warning that she had between 48 hours and two months left. There was hopeful news in there, too...her lungs were clear as a bell. It made me think we were on an upward trend, and encouraged me to continue to pray for healing. Jesus wept.

Jesus wept. That is the shortest verse in the entire Bible, but it speaks volumes about Him. Jesus, fully God and fully Man. Human from stem to stern. To say that He never experienced what we do now is, according to this verse, totally false. He encountered racism, segregation, slavery, bias, prejudice...joy, anger, the gamut of emotions, and no doubt He even encountered counter-cultures, but none of it, not one iota of it can compare to the emotion of grief.
