God? Why did You give me this heart?

You know, this is a question that I seem to ask a lot lately. Mostly to myself, but on a couple of occasions it's been out loud. God gave me the heart for the underdog, for the abused, for those rejected by society...doesn't matter if that individual is a human or an animal. Every day I see at least one post showing an animal in distress. Usually, its more than five that I see in my timeline. At least twice a week, I see a child who has been abused or is gravely ill. About that many times a week there are posts about adults or seniors going through chemo treatments or are finding themselves at the end of their roads. Every once in a while I have a friend or two who are so deeply depressed that hope is something that everyone else has. No, its not one person in particular, there are many on my friends list that have depression and have shared via PM the pain they feel physically from the emotional pain of loneliness or depression. And every single time, my heart breaks. I w...

Merry Christmas!

Oh my goodness! Where did the time go? It's said that as you grow older that time seems to fly by. Maybe its a cruel joke or maybe its a merciful thing, I don't know. What I do know is that I've learned that if I don't make the most of every day, that I've missed out on that day's blessing, one that would never make an appearance again because it was unique for that time. This year has been fraught with violence, threats, and fear and it seems to be getting worse, but... But, there is so much more that is going on around us, and if we are not mindful of that fact, we will miss it. We will miss the blessings. We will miss life. There's a song in the Christian community by Brandon Heath called Give me Your eyes.  The chorus goes this way: Give me Your eyes for just one second  Give me Your eyes so I can see  Everything that I keep missing  Give me Your love for humanity  Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted  the ones that are far beyond my ...

Fear is the new normal

What a horrid statement to have to make, but it is true. I was watching and reading about the aftermath of the shootings in San Bernadino yesterday  into the wee hours of the morning. One thing that struck me was a reporter from CNN. Of Asian descent, and although her facial expression did not change, she was angry. Very angry. She was angry that people now know by heart what to do when there is an active shooter. And she is right to be angry, I know I am. When your children know to Run/Hide/Fight when there is a shooter in the area, you know there is a problem with society. Now, I'm about to step on toes, so be sure to wear something that softens the blow if you're so inclined. It's not about gun control. We have some of the most stringent gun control laws in the free world. Yes, it may seem easy to obtain a firearm, but in reality, those background checks are extensive. To suggest the checks and controls be similar to the "No Fly" list...well, it could hav...

Angel's Saga

Well, it finally happened, I turned the Angel, the Jindo Gae mix blog entries into a short book. Right now it's available for pre-order on Amazon. For those of you who followed her story about getting her to her family, I hope you will be pleased with the book. For those of you who pretty much have no clue what I'm talking about, much less what on earth a Jindo Gae is, I think you'll love this. Angel was the victim of not having all of the necessary vaccinations to go to her birth land, South Korea, with her owners who are in the Army. The story follows our quest to get her back to her family who had a new duty post there, and all of the obstacles that we encountered. There are some smile/laugh moments, and a couple of sad moments in the book, but its mostly about giving back to the Military in a way that was unique to us (my family). I hope you will check it out, and if moved to, will pre-order it. Right now, the pre-order is for ebook only. The paperback will be o...

What Hell isn't....

What is Hell? According to Wikipedia, hell is a place of punishment and torment in an afterlife (here's the Wiki link   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell  ). It is also described as a place that is eternal, meaning there is no end, no light at the end of the tunnel...it doesn't stop. Ever. There is talk from those who are into conspiracy theory that the largest hole drilled (14.4 meters) into the crust and beyond that is tapping into hell itself. Of course, there were many sensational news stories that came of that saying that super-sensitive microphones inserted into the bore-holes actually picked up human screams. When all was said and done, it turned out to be a hoax by a Finnish man. Scientist theorize that the core of the earth is hotter than the photosphere of the sun, which sits at 5,500 C. What they say is that the core of the Earth is 6000C, making it 500C hotter than the sun's outer surface. That's mighty hot. The inner core of the sun is roughly 15,000,...

A body at rest stays at rest...a body in motion stays in motion...

Or so says Newton's first law. Personally? A body in motion has to stop every once in a while to take some Advil to quash the pain. Meh...such is the life of a person with a chronic pain disorder. However. That doesn't mean that everything stops. Nope. I'm still going. Just call me the Energizer Bunny. Hmm. That really doesn't work either. Okay, let's put it this way, my fingers are doing all the work. I've been going back and forth between a work-in-progress with Kay Ganley, to working on new mandalas for the next coloring book to setting up an Etsy store at the urging of some friends. There is one constant, one linking thing with all of them. I'm still relatively unknown, so my works, whether they're the actual novels I put out or the coloring book, or even the coloring sheets on Etsy, well, they get lost in the abyss of massive amounts of works out there. I looked at my coloring book, for instance. Color Me Mandala: Advanced Mandalas is at a mid...

New book, but not my normal stuff!

Well, I did it. I have another book out. But its not your run of the mill, L. A. Brown book. In fact, its not even a reading book. It's a coloring book. A mandala coloring book. Right now, and that will change hopefully in the next couple of days, its in e-book form, which means if you have a touch-screen, you touch and hold the object you want to print and a pop-up will appear. If you're using the computer, a right clicky-of-the-button will bring up the print option. Either way, you can print off the mandalas to your heart's desire and color away. Now, when the coloring book itself comes out, there are pictures only printed on one side of the page, the other is blank. Why? You ask? Good question, which deserves a good answer. Because, if you use markers or sharpies in your book, there will be bleed-through to the next page (the back of the picture), which would ruin whatever is on the back of the page. All of the mandalas are hand drawn by me, there are no computer i...
